Retirement is paying off already! It sounds like a lovely trip. I was downright mesmerized by Monterey Bay. I could spend a lot of time look out at that spot.
Beautiful. Eastern Wisconsin by any chance? Friends have posted several rainbow photos from there.
Absolutely incredible.
SW Michigan.
Yep, that would work. We’ve had a boatload of rain in MN this weekend for which all farmers and gardeners are heartily grateful for. Boy, have we needed the rain. I’m hoping a lot soaked into the thirsty soil.
I can’t believe how tall the corn is considering how dry it has been. The farmer does not water his crops.
This afternoon I saw five pelicans in a row, soaring very low over the waves off the coast of Nags Head, N.C.
I bet that was a cool sight.
I must report that our falcon camera stopped working around noon yesterday (possibly thunderstorm related). I can only assume that the young’uns have successfully fledged. They were very close to doing so when the camera stopped.
Even though it made for a dreary weekend, I was sure glad to see the rain finally. I was getting tired of having to water my flowers every day. We don’t water our lawn - ever - and it was getting on the crispy side in spots. Now today it looks like the grass grew 3 inches overnight!
Yesterday I explored the Patuxent wildlife refuge. The northern section is pretty heavily forested, but there some cleared area around the visitor center where they have nectar feeders and plantings for hummingbirds, and place is full of them. It was marvelous!
Unfortunately, they aren’t easy to photograph. Here is my best shot:
I love pelicans and got to see some of the white ones at Nags Head this past December. I could watch those squadrons flying over the water all day long.
These were brown, but yes, I agree!
Me too! We still have a ways to go to get out of drought and I notices some lawns that couldn’t green up quickly because the grass either went way back to the roots or is totally dead. Maybe they will be a bit greener tomorrow. I hope so.
Camera at the falcon nest is back up and running but it’s too late The former-babies have flown the coop. Good luck and farewell young peregrines. Thanks for sharing your lives with us!
@zimaane That’s a lovely shot.
Our lawn is a mix of grasses and weeds. It might get a little ugly during a drought, but a bit of rain and it is all green again.
I was walking around our horse pasture yesterday afternoon, and a deer startled me. We stood looking at each other for a few minutes.
Kayaker, I was thinking about how that is usually the case. I was wondering if these were suffering from fertilizer burn due to the lack of rain. I guess I’ll find out. I drive by most every day.
Saw what I think was a cormorant plunging into the ocean just offshore, as it did some fishing here on the Outer Banks.
Saw a turkey out for a stroll by the hospital’s satellite clinic/ER.
