Today is Beethoven's 250th Birthday

Sorry – missed it by two days. Didn’t see anything about it up, though.

… or, as this article puts it, a Quarter of a Millennium of Beethoven

I’m a huge Beethoven fan, especially as performed by Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonik. Gonna pull out the symphonies and overtures. Maybe even the “10th” symphony.

Beethoven Day!

That’s 35.7 in Saint Bernard years.

How much is Schroeder responsible for Beethoven’s fame among average Americans?

I mentioned it on the 16th in the “Humorous Allusions to Actors’ Previous Roles” thread. (Post 14.)

Beethoven: a composer for nearly 45 years and a decomposer for nearly 200.

Yeah, but it took Brahms nearly 14 years to complete his Lullabye (for obvious reasons).

I remember Beethoven’s 200th birthday. Lots of concerts that year. Sadly, this time around COVID has canceled most of the festivities. Not all, though. And classical radio stations had exclusively Beethoven days.

Guess I can recycle this from a Thread Games thread:

Higgeldy Piggeldy,
Ludwig von Beethoven,
Wrote on the treble and
Also bass clef.

Sestercentennial
December sixteenth,
We’d sing Happy Birthday,
Except Ludwig’s deaf.

The slow movement of the Hamerklavier sonata is one of my favorite pieces of music. Although Shostakovich said it was “boring.”

Emily Lettella.

Nitpick: It’s Litella. Because she wrote about “Little, teeny, tiny … things.”
