Today is Drive Your White Pickup Day!

Or at least it seems that way.

I just looked out the window and in the parking garage across the alley, it does look like today is White Truck Day. Fully half of the vehicles that I can see from here are white pickups. About half and half Ford and Dodge, with a couple Chevy tossed in. About half have caps. None have racks. (I think racks are forbidden at this garage) and they’re all superficially clean, shiny and un-dented.

I could kinda understand if they were all the same make and model, or if they all had the name of the same company on them, but they’re all unlabeled.

Probably has no significance, but it is weird to see that many white trucks anywhere other than a dealer lot.

White pickups: The Black Helicopter for the 21st century!

Around here it is silver pickups. I started the trend 5 years ago when I bought a new silver Nissan. Then the guy who parks next to me got a silver Toyota. Over the next year, 4 other drivers who park in our lot bought silver pickups. Ahead of the curve for once!

Dang, I must have missed the memo. I left my white Dodge pickup at home today. Maybe I can call my wife and have her drive it around a little bit.

Here I saw the thread title and thought, “Oooh, my husband will be pleased!” He’s got a white Dodge Dakota with a cap. For him, every day is “Drive Your White Pickup Day”.

White is a very common color for pickups, especially smaller ones. If you have one, you must pay close attention to where you park. I’ve got a red sedan…that’s about as bad.

Can someone tell this non-truck-owner what racks and caps are?

A rack is generally made of pipe and sticks up above the bed and hangs over the cab to put ladders or pipes on. I think a cap is one of those flat, hard tonneau covers that’s level with the top of the pickup bed, but it might be a camper shell that’s level with the top of the cab.

I am driving my white truck today, but then, I always do as it’s my only vehicle. I don’t have a rack or a cap, but I do have a nice diamond-plated saddle toolbox.

Sure. Racks are what you’ll typically see on contractor’s trucks, commonly used to hold ladders or pipe. And they look like this

Caps cover the whole bed and look like these.
