In 30 years I have never found two guys to join me in a Estevez/Nelson/hall dance scene reenactment, and going it alone just gets me thrown out of Starbucks.
Bender: Did your mom marry Mr. Rogers?
Brian Johnson: No, she married Mr. Johnson.
Wait, just realized this after watching The Breakfast Club tonight. Wasn’t he Glenbrook North? That’s the school in the movie (as well as in Ferris Bueller and other Hughes movies.) It looks like he graduated from there in 1968.
ETA: I should say Glenbrook North is the exterior shots. The interior is Maine North. The name “Breakfast Club” comes from New Trier, but Hughes went to Glenbrook North.
BTW, I’m sure I’m not the only one, but Ally Sheedy looked much better before the make-over in the movie, right?
Absolutely! I make this comment to my wife every time the movie comes on TV.
Then I mention the bathtub scene in that stupid robot movie she was in later.
And that, I fear, is my sum total of knowledge about Ally Sheedy.
Short Circuit! I totally forgot she was in that. Of course, the last time I saw the movie was probably a year or so after it came out. Don’t forget War Games and St. Elmo’s Fire. And that’s about where my knowledge ends.
Mine is mainly her appearance as a teen hooker in a couple of episodes of “Hill Street Blues”. Fond memories there.
I was so smitten with the lovely Miss Sheedy that I paid good money to go see Maid to Order in the theaters.
That movie might have cured me of my smittenness… ![]()
Nope, I was with you. The only part of the movie I really liked was where Paul Gleason told Bender, “Some day, when you’ve forgotten about this place and they’ve forgotten all about you, I’m going to find you and beat the **** out of you.” I’d love to see a sequel in which he DID.
John Hughes idealized the worthless punk Bender in a way that only a middle-class white nerd can idealize bad boys.
All I know about The Breakfast Club I learned from Futurama:
“Oh, I can’t wait until I’m old enough to feel ways about stuff.”
“The Breakfast Club soundtrack. This should clear the room after the reception.”
Possibly, but I’d guess
Brian: Started in IT, is now CIO of a major insurance company
Claire: Divorced twice. Sells real estate. Lives alone with two Pomeranians.
Andrew: Regional manager for a grocery chain.
Allison: Director of a not for profit, and eco tourist
Bender: Retired after selling his profitable electrician business. Lives on a lake and fishes a lot.
Brian here is very interested in pursuing a career in the custodial arts…
