Today is the 57th anniversary of Japan's surrender, ending WWII

I think it is worthy of note and reflection.

It is indeed.
Allied victory in WWII was a great victory for everybody.
Democracy defeats Fascism.
Hooray!

Definitely worthy of note. I’m thinking of all that died, military or civilian, Allied or “the enemy”. Because most of them, on either side, were just average people like you and me.

And it all happened just 60 years ago. Think of how short a time span that really is. We’ve made great steps since - and yet, there’s such a long road ahead of us.

Definitely a milestone, notable for being both the end of that conflict as well as marking a point in time to reflect upon. The whole Cold War came and went since then.

I notice you’ve got another thread going, December 11, 1941 – Day 1 of WWII, where a similar theme seems to be knocking about. In the case of this thread, I think V-J Day probably looms larger in peoples’ memories than September 2nd.
