(International members can celebrate too, if they wish.)
Gonna reread some ol’ Pogo books.
Stop by here for dinner? ROAD KILL CAFE - Artemas, Pennsylvania - Yelp.
They were fairly common when/where I grew up. But the number we saw on the hoof in the evening hours was nothing compared to the numbers we saw in flattened form in the morning.
Not fast, not smart. Bad combination.
I might play dead. Or just do nothing.
Same thing, right?
There’s no squash as a side dish.
Whatever we do, let’s not alert RFK Jr. The rest of us might like some too.
I’ll mentally support them since they’re nocturnal, and I don’t see them very often. I think they’re kinda cute. Ugly-cute, i.e. jolie laide.
Australian possums are actually cute.
I’ll try not to make any loud noises when they’re eating the feral cat’s food tonight.
I’m literally wearing my [Goofy Movie] Lester’s Possum Park t-shirt right now. And I didn’t even know it was a holiday!
Been playin dead most of the day. So far so good.
And now, a SONG!
For the entire day, I have not eaten an opossum. I think I have done my share.
I think I’ll probably just play… well, you know.
Thank you, I learned a new term tonight!
While out with the dog she frequently sees deer and cats and will bark at them. Yesterday (October 18th) she turned a corner and was face to face with an opossum, which was the first time in her life she has been that close to a wild animal (not counting bugs and stuff). If I hadn’t responded quickly and pulled her away there could have been a physical confrontation. So, I celebrated by pulling a dog away from one.
You’re right. Those are much cuter than ours. Thanks for the pic.
When we lived in Florida, we had one walking on our deck - looked like a big, ugly rat. ick.
A few years back, I actually saw one in our yard here (Southern Merrylande) playing possum in the yard. Our pug was out for her evening pee when she spotted it, and when she charged, the possum plopped down to the ground. It lay there a pretty long time, even after we brought the dog inside. A bit later, I looked out and it was gone. Haven’t seen one since. I don’t think our wolfhound would ignore it.
I would get Granny to cook up a pot of hog jowls and possum innards, and hope Jethro doesn’t get to them first!.
And aside from the name similarity, since they are only very remotely related, O-less possums don’t have much reason to look like O-ful possums.
