Tofu burgers in the White House

Here’s an interesting one. The United States has elected a Catholic to be president, and right now, it seems like a Jew will be Veep in just shy of four months.

But, will a vegetarian ever be elected President?

How would the beef, chicken, and seafood lobbies react? Are there any vegetarians in Congress? Would state dinners be vegetarian? As one, myself, I think this would be really neat. Vegetarianism is slowly getting more and more mainstream, which lead me to ponder this question to begin with.

So, what do you think?

I know there’s plenty in state houses, so I’m sure there’s a couple in Congress.

It’s not the kind of thing you broadcast at a fundraising dinner in your honor, though, where they serve everyone rubber chicken. You just have to tough it out, like eating at the boss’s house when he hosts the company barbeque.

I’d say it would probably be a problem for presidential candidates in the Iowa caucuses, where most corn goes to feed grain. But I doubt a VP candidate would get much flak for it.
