Long sad story, involving cat boarding, moving out of our house for 6 weeks, the worst AirBnB in the world, and finally a completely new $20k bathroom.
Then I noticed something was off. Long short, the toilet bolts weren’t tightened, there was leakage under the wax ring. Had that repaired. But I still have stained grout at 4 places around the toilet.
Any fix??
Rust stains? If it’s rust, don’t try bleach to whiten.
Is the grout unsealed?
From ‘This Old House’ site:
Fill a cup with warm water.
Add baking soda to the cup to give the mixture grit.
Add a few drops dish soap to the cup. Mix everything together.
Pour vinegar along the edges of the grout. Don’t do too much at once or the floor will be really wet and more difficult to work on.
Pour the mixture on top of the vinegar along the grout lines.
Scrub the grout lines with the stiff scrub brush.
After scrubbing, let the mixture sit for about five minutes. Then, scrub it again with the brush.
Wipe off the excess vinegar mixture with a sponge. Allow the floor to dry. It could take about 45 minutes.
(OPTIONAL) If that doesn’t work, try gently scraping the top layer of the grout with a grout knife. They’re meant for removing grout, so do this carefully.
Apply the grout sealer along all the grout lines.
Allow the sealer to dry for 3-4 hours. Then apply a second coat.
Repeat this sealing process every year, especially for light colored grout.
I’d first ry a 50-50 mixture of bleach/water on a small area, say behind the toilet. Lightly scrub, allow it to dry to see if that works.
Last time I cleaned my grout I used a toothbrush for the job. And a bleach solution but what **Dereknocue67 **posted seems fine.
