This January I am travelling to Japan (for the first time!). I will have a layover on Haneda from 16.00 to 01.30. Is this enough time to go to Tokyo and grab some food or see some stuff? Or is this in your opinion too short a window and too much hassle?
I had a look on The fast way into Tokyo | JR-EAST and it says Shinjuku is only 25 minutes from Hamamatsucho. Now I don’t know where Hamamatsucho is, but after googling Shinjuku it’s where I want to go
Luggage won’t be an issue.
Thanks!
*After closer inspection it is 14 minutes from Haneda to Hamamatsucho and from there another 25 to Shinjuku.
But I am open to anything (not just girls in go go outfits)
I’d think you’d have plenty of time to explore Shinjuku. There are alot of interesting areas to check out. Kabuchiko(I’m sure I’m not spelling that right) is the red light district, but its pretty tame by western standards. The Golden Gai is a collection of tiny bars not far from the station. There are also numerous alleyways near the tracks that house small bars and barbeque places. Also just all the neon signage at dusk is very kinda “Tokyo” to me, then you might sumble accross an ancient shrine set back in a quiet spot away from the hustle and bustle and modernity. I always get a kick out of that kinda Shogun-meets Bladerunner effect about Tokyo, and Shinjukus a great place to experience it. You may need to spring for a cab back to the airport if you stay late. I’m jealous, Have great time!
Thanks for the info. I also realised that my timing of the OP wasn’t the best; Friday night in Japan. Perhaps I’ll bump it Monday morning just before they go to work
I’ll respond to more posts tomorrow. Off to Friday night (afternoon) drinks myself!
