Tom Cruise, fuck you!

Despite my previous post, my derision is entirely of the organization, and I don’t hate Scientologists. I do think you have to be pretty dumb to buy into it, but being dumb doesn’t make you a bad person. Nancy Cartwright seems harmless enough.

Also, Hyde from ‘That 70’s Show’ is a $cieno as is Leah Remini, Giovanni Ribisi, and Jason Lee; we can thank Tom Cruise’s first wife Mimi Rogers for getting him into it. I wonder if they promised to make him taller… The Church makes a concerted affort to recruit celebrities so they their fans will follow, period.
Time magazine did an excellent piece on $cientology about a decade ago, and another good website for archived info is clambake.org.
I have avoided movie w/ $cienos in them for several years now and have been called a bigot for doing so by people who just don’t get it. They’re not getting any of my money if I can help it; the worst is when I find out AFTER seeing a movie that someone in it was a $cientologist, like w/ ‘Lost In Translation’. Giovanni Ribisi, mail me my $8.50!!

Not only is the guy who plays Hyde in the cult, but so his his brother, who plays Francis on Malcolm in the Middle.

A damn shame, if you ask me.

Yeah. Scientology proselytises to the affluent and fortunate, which is pretty much the opposite of other religions’ tactics. Why?

The goal of most religions is simply to provide spiritual enlightenment. Whether or not they provide that is up for debate, but their intentions are pretty much out in the open.

Scientology just wants to make money.

L. Ron Hubbard:

Well, I founded scientology because I wanted to provide freedom from the evils of Xenu. Also, I really like big fat sacks of cash money. Do you like my hat? It’s made of money. Would you like to stay for lunch? I think we’re having money.

They still suppressing Heinlein’s Number of the Beast for its lampoon of LRH?

No!

NO!!

NooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Daaaaamit! Hyde is the dreamiest! And I love Giovanni!

Well, doubledammit. Just MORE actors/actresses I have to boycott.

And Pizza Hut.

[minor nitpick] Buddhism can also be classified as a philosophy, since some forms of it require exactly zero belief in the supernatrural. [/minor nitpick].

Just spreadin’ the word for my atheist Buddhist homies.

Uhm, is Pizza Hut connected to Scientology? Or do you boycott them for some other reason?

It’s still a religion if persued strongly enough - I would classify atheism as my religion.

/hijack

Jason Lee’s a $cieno? well I never knew that.

I already boycott Tom Stumpyfucker Cruises movies, not really because of his ‘religion’, but because his face pisses me off.“i’m so fucking cool” motherfucker should have fallen off that mountain in MI:2, and he didnt. which is why I changed the channel when it was on telly.

and I invented ‘stumpyfucker™’.I used it in another $cieno thread in the pit a while ago.

Whoops.

I thought I read on www.xenu.com that the founder of Pizza Hut was a $cieno. But upon checking my facts, discovered that he is, in fact, out of Scientology. :smack:

Mea culpa. I will now go back to boycotting Pizza Hut just because their product is disgusting.

Now, here’s where I have to throw in a ‘however’ - Germany has been discriminating against $cienos in the past few years, and I disagree w/ this wholeheartedly. I know I’m dancing close to Godwin’s Law by mentioning Germans, but bear with me: no government should be allowed to regulate the ideas going into or out of someone (anyone)'s head. Worship takes many forms and they should all be allowed as long as they’re not hurting others/breaking laws. The SCAM part of $cientology should be investigated and possibly prosecuted, but the sincere worship which I believe every person’s entitled to, regardless what/whom/where they want to worship shouldn’t be interfered w/. Just as I have the right to go to what church I like or never go if I don’t care to, I have the right to choose what movies I go to, etc. (Not many belief systems are without a cost to the believer.) The snake-handling churches in the South are at times going against local laws, and that’s why they’re underground for the most part.
Really, should Germany be smacking down on any religion just yet? I heard a writer on PRI the other day say that WW2 won’t be over until someone names their child Adolf w/o thinking of Hitler. Guess I’m perpetuating it myself.
