A bit surprised this wasn’t posted before. When I was a kid my parents had a copy of ‘The Hat’ which I loved. Somehow that book was lost. I still remember the vivid illustrations and a couple of years ago I bought a copy of the book in excellent condition and still love the illustrations. That was the only children’s book of his that I read, and I am sorry that I never experienced the other books as a child.
In December of 2017 I was in Strasbourg for the Christmas markets. I didn’t know that there was a Tomi Ungerer museum there, so finding it was an unexpected treat.
Oh no! One of my favorite books, as a young child, was Crictor, the story of an old lady who was sent a boa constrictor by her naturalist son. I loved the pictures too, especially one of a statue townspeople made of the snake, wearing a wreath of laurel leaves.
