See, there’s a strike going on where I work. It’s one of the unions at the university. I’m in a different union, and we are required to report to work, or I violate my contract, which leads to the lack of a job for me (provisions are made for illness). Which is fine, I’ll be there, I’ll do my job.
I just hate having to do it. I’m still frustrated in deciding whether either side is really in the right. There have been mistakes made on both sides of this. I lean somewhat more in support of the strikers, but some comments have been made that I question - which is what keeps me from fully supporting the strikers. For the most part, I keep my mouth shut about it at work.
And it gets better - faculty have set a strike date of Tuesday (their contract is also being negotiated). And classes are supposed to start a week from tomorrow.
yay.
There’s the part where failing to cross would result in the lack of a job for the OP. It’s all well and good to have principles, but they’re not going to feed you or pay the rent/mortgage if sticking to a non-life-threatening one is going to result in you losing your job.
Lsura, you really should contact your Business Agent and talk about this, IMO.
I walked picket lines last year in support of the Teamster’s strike here in Las Vegas because they were striking in a facility where we also work. I wouldn’t cross a picket line for nuthin’. It’s amazing how fast I can get sick, sometimes.
