That actually sounds right, but IANAWhatever the hell the people who think about these things are called. I also should correct my previous post. I’m getting from the Wiki that the host’s diet is not changed.
On the other hand, another cite there has it that human connoisseurs isolate the parasite for their diet, which makes the host more likely for predation.
Though zombie lore varies, a common theme is the reanimation of necrotic tissue. In this instance, the tongue dies and is discarded. It isn’t being reanimated and the parasite appears alive and well. Too well, actually.
As said, there’s a PS2 game with the premise being that cordyceps mutated to start infecting humans. Basically, they become zombies, but just with a different reason.
And I’ve heard theories that parasites like toxoplasmosis might be responsible for certain “off” behaviors…crazy cat lady, anyone?
That suggestion has indeed been made.
In fact, one of my stories makes the suggestion that it was such a parasite-borne behavior change that’s responsible for human civilization.
