My question for you is, if your dad is so buddy-buddy with this guy, why didn’t your dad call you to come meet Ke? He’s friends with someone who has done what you are planning to do and is in a position to help/mentor/advise/hire you at some point, and he doesn’t call you? But he has some girl who works with him call you. Or was that just a happy coincidence like you said? If your dad has known this guy for a while, why hadn’t he introduced you to him before?
I don’t think my dad knew exactly what Ke’s business was. 419 West sees all kinds of medium-to-large scale local businesspeople; the staff is friendly with many of them without knowing precisely who they all are. The management knows, of course, but the waitstaff is more or less left to their own devices. My father, as I said, mostly concerns himself these days with playing pool. He struck up a friendship with Ke over the past couple weeks, and they went downtown to shoot pool last night…a purely social relationship; no element of business to it.
Liz was just someone who’d seen me come into 419 and had taken an interest. From what my friend tells me (and some of my acquaintences at 419 corroborate), it’s not uncommon for her to make the first move when she thinks she might like somebody.
I know this all seems a bit too coincidental, but trust me on one thing: if there was more to be read into this than meets the eye, the odds are good that I would already have read it. Overanalysis is among my prime stock-in-trade.

Odd for me,too. Not only did I see a groundhog(I think), but a dead deer lying on the grass next to a 4 lane street. Then I was walking downtown and this man takes a picture of me as I walk toward him.
I just got off the phone with Liz. The police found the phone, all right…at the bottom of a trashcan about a block away from Arthur’s. The purse, obviously, is still at large, and is likely to remain so. Ke ended up driving Liz home, sitting down with her parents, and explaining to them exactly what had happened – including the part about the underage drinking – which resulted in her being essentially grounded for life. It was the right thing to do on Ke’s part, no question there, but still…sucks for her. Also, she thanked me for my support, despite my inability to do anything useful; she said she “really appreciated it”. So, yay. Or perhaps “w00t”; I am feeling rather 1334 about the whole affair.
I emailed Ke today thanking him for his interest in my business future, and for the advice he provided in regard to my military career. I don’t expect to hear back from him personally, but it can’t hurt nonetheless. If nothing else, I’m sure to see him again at 419, and now that I know who he is, I’ll be sure and say ‘hi’, and I’ll keep him apprised via email every few months of my progress through military training.
So, no exciting climax to this tale, or at least not yet. If anything else interesting happens in relation to this, I’ll let y’all know. For now, though…back to waiting tables and hoping to get a ship date soon.

Omniscient, I can only guess that by “lighten up”, you mean that you believe I’m attaching to much significance to this series of events. This:
essentially conveys my attitude where that is concerned. It was an interesting story, which is the one and only reason why I posted it. Yes, I pontificate on stuff for no particular reason other than that I enjoy doing it; that doesn’t mean I put much (or any) stock in whatever results it generates. Though, to be truthful, that last portion of the OP isn’t an entirely honest reflection of my thought process regarding the whole thing at the time…largely because my thought process about the whole thing at the time would be best summarized in written form as “Hmm. Yeah, guess that happened.” Doesn’t make for a very interesting post. Hey, gotta add some zest somewhere, right?
