Finland just had an election - today, in fact. One of the people who got elected was wrestler (used to wrestle in WWF too, under the moniker Ludvig Borga) Tony Halme. He got 16,000 votes in Helsinki area, which is quite, quite a lot - and gives him a seat in the parliament. Tony published a book 'bout two years ago. Here are some statements from the book. I’ve translated them myself. No, I don’t own the book - I got them off Finnish forum Muropaketti. I’ve leafed through the book, though - I’m pretty sure they’re authentic. And they’re only the tip of the iceberg.
(Note that Tony’s referring to preferred Finnish fascist tactic of the thirties, driving commies and comsymps to the eastern border and roughing them a bit along the way.)
…should be obvious he’s a :wally of the highest order.
Great. Now people will think every pro-wrestler-turned-pro-politician is an asshole and tar Jesse “The Body” Ventura (Gov., Minnesota) with the same brush as Tony “The Nazitard” Halme.
How do you say “Gee, you really are that stupid!” in Finnish? 'Cause I think it would be the perfect phrase for Halme’s opposition to use.
The election was nimbly won by the main opposition, centrist-populist Centre Party. They’ll probably get the PM seat, but whether they’ll make government with Social Democrats or Conservatives depends on government negotiations.
Not only did Tony Halme (by the way, he’s also a boxer! not just a wrestler) make it into the parliament, so did Mikko Alatalo (remember him? We discussed him previously in the Matti Nykänen thread), the god-awful blue-eyeglass-wearing, horrible-songs-singing-with-stupid-guitar-playing, absolutely-no-sense-making idiot who could honestly be described as one of the most useless people in Finland… At least in my opinion. I’m sure all the old ladies in Finland disagree, since they seem to make up the primary audience for his gigs and sing-along TV shows.
It’s been said that Tony Halme got all the protest votes that have previously gone to Donald Duck and The Phantom… When you think about it, though, he’s going to have a tough time in parliament. He has no political experience, he’s already made a national impression as a not-thoroughly-nice man, and the parliament which got elected now has many returning representatives, who will probably not take too well to him (at least I sincerely hope so).
The Center Party gained 55 seats in the parliament, with the Social Democrats close behind with 53. The Social Democrats were the largest party in the previous parliament, so it’s assumed that the Center will be turning to them first when it comes to negotiations on the future government.
Wow, and I always considered Finland one of the world’s saner countries (being that I’m half Finnish). How the hell did this puddle of donkey fuck get elected?
One’s Raimo Vistbacka, longtime politician back from the days True Finns were known as Finnish Rural Party. The other’s Timo Soini, the party leader. I don’t know too much about them, though presumably they’re anti-immigration and populist, and I don’t dare to speculate about their derrieres.
Hmm… I missed the whole “lesbian” thing. Which is probably for the best, anyway.
Helsingin Sanomat reported that Tony Halme got quite a lot of votes particularly in those areas of Helsinki where the immigrant population is quite high and the general earnings of the population are lower than in most other parts of Helsinki (Kontula, Kivikko, etc.). Probably there are quite a lot of Finns living in those areas who think that life was a lot better before “all these goshdarn stinkin’ foreign people started comin’ here an’ takin’ all our jobs an’ our money an’ our women”…
Well, at least we can comfort ourselves in the fact that there are only three True Finns in parliament, and 197 other representatives who aren’t as kooky…
You can’t imagine how glad I am to find that my country doesn’t have the market cornered on lowest common denominator politics. Misery loves company, after all…
Oh, but see, it’s not really his fault. Because see, he had always assumed that the chairperson of SETA has to be homosexual. He assumed it was common knowledge.
…Well, at least he’s getting people to talk about politics again…
