OK… the other day I downloaded this demo… I am hooked. What a great game. One stupid level and I’ve played it for hours on end… so much fun. I WILL buy the whole game… but until I do… for all you people who have it, please tell me how to do moves! All I have been doing is 540 and the occasional 750 olies… Then tonight I accidently hit the “c” key in mid kick… and OH MY GOD!!! 360 KICK FLIP TO SOMETHING OR OTHER “COOL GUY” MOVE! (don’t remember the exact name) So now I am doing that!
I also downloaded the demo and had the same questions you did. There should be a readme.txt file or a file named instructions in the start menu group for the game. This will give you the moves you want. And the game rocks.
BTW, MTV Skateboarding is also a decent skateboarding game, but I found Tony Hawk II much better and easier to control.
Whammo, buddy! This game DOES rock! My bro got it for me for the PSX for Xmas, and it punches me in the gut, and when I’m bent over, kicks me in the balls. Then, it pushes me down to the ground, pees on me, and runs away. That’s how good it is.
while there is no official “end”, he has finished career mode with every character (including Carrera (sp?)) seen all (but one i just e-mailed him last night) the cheats and secret characters (spidy is cool). Took him a while. He got it a week or so after it came out for PSX and just finished it a couple weeks ago.
You know, if you finish career mode with every character multiple times (up to 13) you get different, new, stuff each time.
I don’t actually own a PSX. My sister has one, and my brother has one, and I use them when I want to play. My friend in the dorms lets me borrow his for a few weeks at a time, occasionally, also, and he lets me borrow his memory card.
Mostly, though, I just use cheat codes (if I’m in a hurry) or start over each time. Not too hard. Irritating, but not hard.
Low gravity, physics adjusted (more cartoony, or more realistic), 80’s Tony Hawk, smooth textures, wireframe skaters, slow-motion tricks, no texture maps, stuff like that.
I got the game the day it came out. I then spent a solid eight hours playing it (on Playstation). If you’re familiar with the first game then this game is pretty easy to get used to. In fact once you’ve got the manuals down good, you can score some sick points. Here’s the trick - you’ve got to grind-trick-grind-trick-grind-land to get good combos. But when you land in this game, you can land in a nose or tail manual and keep the combos going. You can trick between manuals and reach another grind, possibly, for even more. I’ve gotten 18 trick combos for like 150,000 points.
Unfortunately, I got too bored to try to beat the game with every character to get all the goodies, so I resorted to the cheat codes.
Oooh, the skate park editor is addicting too.
And Homer, for the love of all that is good and sacred on this green earth, go get at least one memory card. You are so missing out. They only cost like 10 bucks or something like that.
Hey, Jack, what is a manual, anyway? I haven’t messed with them yet.
What was your best score in the first one? My friend got about 200,000 from the first competition level (Skate Arena, was it?) in the first game. Best I did on that track was about 100,000. This was the trick: You started out, ground the rails to the small ramp, transfered to the halfpipe, did a few stunts, went over the side, ground the rails to the small ramp on the backside of the course, came back, transfered OVER the halfpipe while doing your special, landed and ground on the rail above the lights, while doing tricks, at the end of the rail, jump and turn and transfer to the light itself, ground and tricked off of it, then, at the end of that, do a few tricks while jumping to the halfpipe, land on the edge of the pipe, grind it, then transfer into the pipe and do your special again.
Well… that’s how he did it.
My best score in the first one, and you’re not going to believe me, was a 25000 point trick with a x200 multiplier. I got too excited when I saw that and didn’t land it.
Homer, a manual is a “wheelie”, either on the front wheels (nose manual) or the back wheels (tail manual). I haven’t played the game in a while, but I think the control is UP-TRIANGLE for nose and DOWN-TRIANGLE for tail. You can start one when you’re just rolling along or from the air to land in a manual. The cool thing is, if you’re in the air heading for a rail or a lip to grind but you’re not sure if you’ll make it, hit the UP-orDOWN-TRIANGLE and if you miss the grind you’ll still have the manual to continue the combo.
I think the biggest combo I had was in the 200,000 range in the Philly level. I started off going straght off the ramp-two flip tricks - nose manual - flip trick - grind on the ledge to the right - flip trick - special grind - flip trick - special grind - flip trick - tail manual - head toward left ledge - flip trick - grind - flip trick - special grind - flip trick - special grind - flip trick - manual - flip trick - manual - flip trick. Or something like that. The hard part about that is grinding on that left ledge because it is broken up, but if you have enough speed you can span the gaps.
Another cool thing is if you get the perfect balance cheat you can grind anything forever, and manual all the flats to keep combos going.
The way I got the hugamous multiplier like that is because I pulled a wicked combo, then gasp got stuck in the wall. I continued comboing for like 10 minutes. Then I fell out of the wall on my head.
