you know, I was watching the last episode of the Sopranos and got to wondering - how much does Tony make? I know he would have to have a legitimate (or believable) income from the carting business, and of course the less than kosher stuff he does. So how much would he be realistically able to clear from the garbage? and how much might someone actually make running a family business like his?
IIRC, Wayne Huizenga, the jerk from Miami who owns/owned the Miami Marlins, Miami Panthers and the Dolphins, and started BlockBuster Video, got his start with a company called Waste Management Industries. Here’s a profile on the guy that indicates that he might have also once shared Mr. Soprano’s penchant for violence.
The business school at Nova University (in Ft. Lauderdale) is named for him. In addition to the other ventures I’ve mentioned, Mr. Huizenga now acts as Chairman of AutoNation Inc., Extended Stay America, Republic Services, Inc. and Huizenga Holdings, Inc.
Oh, sorry, my point was that if you’re a ruthless thug with a blatant disregard for the environment and a tight control of your market, perhaps including some kickbacks to the right people, that you can become filthy rich from the garbage industry.
