Tools for the coming zombie apocalypse

Forget the guns, you run out of ammo and you are done. I carry my trusty Pry Bar. Mine is longer than the one showed, at 30", and just a few lbs. For everyday use, i carry one of the small Dead-ON exhumers everywhere. Handy little thing, and good for a weapon in a pinch.

I have an Annihilator. Nice tool, but I prefer to put the undead down at longer range. One of the .40 S&W pistols would probably be first choice. If they are a little further out, an ideal situation if you ask me, I’d go with one of the ARs in 6.8SPC caliber. Heavier bullet than the .223 you know. A little closer I’d go with the AR with the 7.5 inch barrel. Very nice for close quarters. My house has too many windows for good defense, but we do have a concrete walled safe room. Maybe I should drill some gun ports in the walls.

Skip the .30-.30, its just an obsolete .30-06

I have a chainsaw. The chainsaw is fueled and starts on one pull. I can’t wait till the day I can wade through zombie guts, swinging my saw like a maniac.

No, I like them fine, it’s just these are the calibers I have on-hand NOW, if the Zombies were to rise tonight, I could use these, a 5.56 or 7.62 rifle I don’t own yet does me little good sitting in the gun store

I also have a range of melee/striking tools as well, crowbar, baseball bat, Stanley FUBAR, KaBar USMC knife, these devices have the advantage of not needing to use consumable ammunition, but they require you to get closer to the threat, the firearm gives one great advantage, distance

for the sake of argument, lets say that the hypothetical zombies in this uprising can be put down with a headshot from a .22 rifle (in reality, the likelihood of success with a .22 on a humanoid target would be marginal, but Zombies aren’t exactly real now, are they, hollywood zombies, that is)

My .22 has been sighted in at 100 and 50 yards, and is capable of .75" to 1" groups at 100 yards, .50" at 50 yards, so even worst case scenario, my rifle gives me 50 yards or so of distance between me and the Zack threat, and I have a respectable amount of .22 ammo stockpiled

Compared to lets say, a crowbar or baseball bat, that gives the wielder about 2-3 feet of distance from the Zombie threat, damage is determined by the wielder’s strength

Yes, my guns will eventually run out of ammo during an extended “Level 4” siege, even with my ability to reload for .45, .30-06, and .44-40, at some point, my stock of primers, powder, and bullets will be depleted, hopefully, the siege would not outlast my ammo supply, that’s why I have hand weapons available as backups

Want! Especially for those days where I’m both prepared enough to have a CSOD on my passenger seat, yet careless enough to leave my car window open enough for a crazy little chinese guy to assault me with a sword - and I want to use a CSOD as a shield rather than roll up the window and drive away.

Just thought you’d all like to know that the zombie apocalypse has officially begun. Nigel Farage, former leader of the UK Independence Party crashed his plane (again) yesterday, while attempting to tow a banner (again).

After being rescued, he became a zombie. Photos here:

Hard to believe that photo isn’t staged! BRAAIIIIIINS!!

There are a couple of other pics - one I think only appears on the front page of the print version, but they show him actually being pulled out of the wreckage - I can almost imagine the conversations:

1: OMG! there’s a man upside down in there!
2: Wait! Don’t move him!
1: Good thinking - could be spinal injury
2: No, I mean I’m trying to get the camera in the right mode. Do you think we’ll need fill-flash?

Aw geez. I better stock up on weaponry; who knows how quickly that’ll spread to this side of the pond. starts counting: katana, wakizashi, claw hammer, large knives, baseball bat… ‘honey, we need to buy a FuBar!’

Okay, here’s how I’ve planned out my reaction to the zombie apocalypse:

Primary weapon - 12 gauge with a mix of shot and slug cartridges. The simple fact is, we don’t know what it’ll take to knock one of these guys down. I’m going with max power to start with until I can figure out the most efficient way to off the bad guys.

Secondary - Any large caliber handgun with hollow points. Same reason as above, stopping power.

H2H - Baseball bat. I can have it hanging out of a backpack for easy reach. I can swing it one-handed while using the handgun. It has a bit of distance to it that I can use for force projection.

My first goal is to establish a defensive point. I’m going to need somewhere that is defensible enough that I can sleep without having to worry about interlopers. To that end, I think I’m heading right for a nearby military base. They already have defenses in place and it shouldn’t be too bad to modify for immediate needs. Afterwards, your perimeter could be expanded using various means.

Oh, and I’d probably try to get some sort of a machete that I can hang off a belt. Never know if you’ll have to hack these guys heads off or something.

I absolutely would not use anything like a claw hammer or anything that could get stuck in a zombie, losing me my H2H weapon.
