The lil’wrekker had to have a molar extracted (Not wisdom tooth…those are next) .any way its been a few days…she still swelling and in pain,She says it’s not throbbing…just ache-y…does this seem normal…or as I suspect abit of a whiner on my hands
I recently had a filling replaced and felt mild pain afterwards.
My dentist thought I had picked up an infection, gave me a course of antibiotics and the pain disappeared.
Ask your dentist!
I’ve had a molar extracted and I remember it being sore for days after. But as suggested a quick call to the dentist is probably the best bet.
This is apparently your child you’re discussing. Why would you assume she’s a “whiner” instead of ASKING the DENTIST?
ETA I don’t know how old she is; I guess if she’s 20 it’s not so bad, but you make it sound like she’s younger than that.
My first question is why was the tooth extracted? If it was extracted because of a nasty cavity or some other reason that it was already in pain, I’d expect the pain to go down almost immediately. For me, when I’ve had it done, the pain that caused me to go in was less when the Novocaine wore off then when I went in. But that was me.
In any case, call the dentist as soon as they open. They do this every single day and they’ll be the best ones to tell you to come in so they can take a look at the kid and make sure it’s not an infection or dry socket or that it’s fine. I would especially urge you to call right away today since if you push it off any longer you’ll be getting into the weekend and that could change “bring them in after school/tomorrow morning at 7:45” to you taking them to an urgent care on Saturday.
Why are you assuming she’s a whiner?
If she still has swelling YES, she is really in pain. Call the dentist. It could be an infection and if so you want to address that immediately.

Since this is about a real world medical/dental issue, let’s move this to IMHO (from GQ).
She already in antibiotics…she is 18yrs old…she has an impacted wisdom tooth…this molar had to be sacrificed…it was cracked…to get to the wisdom tooth out…and I called her oral surgeon this morning…we are going in this afternoon…thanks all y’all for commenting…she was at college and calling…and texting…i couldn’t look at her til she got in this morning…and she is definitely swelled…minor pain…advil is working fine…i will keep you posted…thanks again!! Btw. I know my child. And tends to be a whiner!!
Update:the dental surgeon found a little shard of tooth left in her gum…so she was novacained and he pulled it out…pain pills on board. She is a happy camper…we are icing it now…swelling gone away…all is good!!thx all
Always remember, sometimes even whiners have good cause to whine.
But I’m glad she’s on the mend.
