Given my thread from a week ago and the other threads linked to, there seem to be 16 movies that are favored as best opening ever and they can actually be seeded by number of people talking about them. Rules are each round is first 50 posts or 1 week whichever comes first.
Also, Saving Private Ryan is not included as the D-Day scene is actually the second scene (stupid Spielberg). I’m also concerned that the same is true for Blade Runner as “the interview” is the second scene but it was not clear if people were talking about that scene or the actual opening scene so it is included. Also, there is a distinction between the opening scene and the first 5-10 minutes of multiple scenes (like the Matrix) so y’all may want to watch the openings again just to make sure. Let me know if there are any problems with the links.
So here we go.
#1 Star Wars vs. #16 Casino Royale
#2 A Touch of Evil vs #15 Fargo
#3 Once Upon a Time in the West vs #14 Blade Runner
#4 Patton vs. #13 Raising Arizona
#5 2001: A Space Odyssey vs. #12 Joe vs. the Volcano
#6 Raiders of the Lost Ark vs #11 Pulp Fiction <NSFW language>
#7 The Matrix vs #10 Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
#8 The Player vs #9 The Way of the Gun <NSFW language>
My Picks
#1 Star Wars. but I question the impact if you are NOT in a theater
#2 A Touch of Evil. I had never seen this before
#3 OUAT in the West. Blade Runner may have had my vote but like SPR it is the *second *scene that is so memorable
#4 Patton. Let’s start the movie by kicking you in the balls.
#5 2001. Great scene but won mainly because I hate the opening to JvtV
#11 Pulp Fiction. A really close one for me. Amanda Plummer wins it for PF
#10 LOTR: Fellowship. The Trinity chase is better but I had to distinguish between opening scene (singular) and opening 10 minutes.
#9 TWotG. Sarah Silverman gets her nose broken. May be the greatest movie scene ever (only half joking)
