Top 3 favorite horror movies of all time?

I’m in that Halloween mood.

I love horror movies but you know, not that many of them are actually good.

I think the best one is:
1982’s The Thing.

I really liked The VVitch…

And as far as re-watchability, I’d have to say Shaun of the Dead.

This year I’m willing to go far schlockier, having watched The Twilight Zone movie, Creepshow (and CreepShow 2), Return of the Living Dead, and Tales from the Crypt (1972).
What are your top 3 favorite horror films for any period? Bonus points for anthologies.

The Mummy (the original, not any of the remakes)
Sinister (the first one, only…the sequel is f’n terrible)
Ju-On (the original series as a whole counts as a single story, I’d say)

And special runner up… House (AKA Hausu)…not to be confused with the American movie of the same name…which is also good, but lacks the sheer WTFness of the Japanese flick.

The Thing
The Night Stalker (1973)
The Legend of HellHouse

The Exorcist
Rosemary’s Baby
The Shining

The Thing (1982)
Alien
The Changeling

The Exorcist
The Haunting
The Shining

Anyone with a Halloween program Jones maybe check out the Travel Channel. They only seen to do ghost stuff these days. I love the narrative shows more than they ghost hunting fake shows.

Tomorrow starting at 6am IFC is showing all the Friday the 13th films. They show commercials but their films are never edited unlike say Sundance.

so at the least we all agree on the The Thing 1982…

In terms of rewatchability,

Army of Darkness.

Dawn of the Dead.

Wolf (Nickolson/Pfeiffer)

The Exorcist
The Shining
Hellraiser

I generally don’t watch horror, but there are a few I’m enjoy:

The Tenant (Roman Polanski’s non-sequel to * Rosemary’s Baby*)
The Bride of Frankenstein
Them!
For anthologies, there’s Dead of Night

The Thing (1982)
Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Fright Night (1985)

I’m having second thoughts. Let’s make it :

The Exorcist
The Evil Dead
Hellraiser

A Top 3 is too damn short .

Asylum (1972) - Only because it’s the first “non-family” movie I saw at a theater.
Frankenstein (1931)
The Shining

There are so many…
Alien
My cousin and I shared an apartment in '79. Decided to go see a movie. “Alien sounds cool, lets see what all the hype is about”. Other than that we knew nothing about the movie.
Afterwards, we couldn’t go home. We needed a bright well lit place. Hung out in a McD’s for an hour or two before going back to the apartment (built in 1914 complete with creepy basement).

The Thing
Wilfred Brimley: “Hey man, I’m all better now. I want to come back inside. I hear things out here”

The Ring
Aidan: “You weren’t supposed to help her.”

“I’d rather not spend the winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!!!”

The Prophecy.
Christopher Walken as Gabriel, Viggo Mortensen as Lucifer.
“I’m an angel. I kill firstborns while their mamas watch. I turn cities into salt. I even, when I feel like it, rip the souls from little girls, and from now till kingdom come, the only thing you can count on in your existence is never understanding why.”

Dracula’s Daughter.
Interesting variation on the vampire-vs-crucifix meme.

The Howling.
“You can’t tame what’s meant to be wild!”

Student Bodies
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Zombieland

You can probably see a pattern emerging here…

The Thing
Prince of Darkness
An American Werewolf in London

In terms of How Many Times Watched, they’d have to be

The Golem (1920)
Island of Lost Souls (1932)
The Bride of Frankenstein (1935)

My first impression after seeing that film was. “That really looks like something they just made up on the fly…”

Then I find out that was partially true.
