Top 5 Cities?

I love Los Angeles. It is an eclectic mix of everything one can possible love and hate!
Washington D.C is so picturesque and interesting. But I wouldnt spend more than two days on a row there.
Im not too fond of NYC

  1. San Diego (hometown)
  2. Vancouver (current home)
  3. Rome (eternal)
  4. Montreal (though I’ve only been once)
  5. Boston

Florence, Venice, and Edinburgh are also high on the list.

-∞. Los Angeles (this may have something to do with being a San Diegan, though is also has a lot to do with having lived in L.A.)

In no particular order…

London, for it’s endless variety. Best time: summer, because Londoners know how to party when the sun shines.

Florence, because it stole my 17 year old heart. Best time, spring.

St Petersberg, truly majestic, it’s many gold topped palaces seem to sparkle. Go in Spring before the Mosquitos arrive.

Seville, which blends Spanish and moorish culture to romantic effect. Go at Easter when it’s bonkers.

New York, because it almost throbs beneath your feet. Go in December for some Christmas twinkle and wrap up warm!

  1. Paris
  2. Barcelona
  3. Chicago
  4. Florence
  5. Vancouver

All for the memories mostly.

Manhattan
Cologne
Paris
Tokyo
Miami Beach

Edinburgh
Paris
Berlin
Venice
Montreal

London
Rome
Hong Kong
Paris
Istanbul

  1. New York: The standard by which I judge all other cities. Manhattan and Brooklyn could each make the top 5. Even a visit to the Bronx is great for the nostalgia. Queens loses points for having JFK, but Flushing is pretty cool. My favorite park is here (Central). Plus, I love 24-hour subways.

  2. Hong Kong: I love ferries and cities with nature, and HK is far and away the best I’ve experienced. Can spend the day in the mountains and beaches without any signs of the nearby urban jungle, and then wander around Mongkok at night. Probably has the world’s best public transportation system.

  3. Bangkok: Has ferries, but not much nature. Not a beautiful city, but has amazing food and nightlife. I’ve been counting the days until I return (7 days, 16 hours).

  4. Paris: Only spent a few days here, but would love to go back. There is so much more I need to see. Has the greatest art museum and endless places to wander around.

  5. London: Spent even less time here than in Paris, but except for the prices, I’d really like to live here for a year. I love the Underground and the insane about of culture emanating from this city.
Honorable mentions: San Francisco, Berlin, Taipei, Madrid, Amsterdam

Istanbul sounds great. Hope to make it there someday.

You misspelled “fairies.” But Bangkok does tend to grow on you, like a fungus, sort of like the fungus you find growing on you after staying here too long.

I honestly can’t decide on five cities. Too many ties. Kathmandu would probably be up there. Santa Fe. Many others already mentioned.

Chicago
New York
Istanbul
Athens
Beijing

Paris (It is a work of art.)(April with the cherry blossoms in bloom)
Ashville, N.C. (in the autumn especially)
Savannah (the historic district’s atmosphere) Autumn
New Orleans (the many moods – summer can be a little too hot)
Camden, Maine (small town with city benefits) Best after Labor Day

I’ve always wanted to see Williamsburg, Virginia at Christmas. One of the days I was there it was 105 degrees at five o’clock in the afternoon. Not typical.

A remarkably borealocentric list.

Wellington
Melbourne
Sydney
Cape Town
Christchurch (pre quake - I haven’t been there since)

Paris
Chicago
Budapest
Seattle
Amsterdam

  1. Hong Kong. Shoe and handbag paradise. Never found a better place to shop

  2. Macao. Vegas east. Pure hedonism. Gotta love it

  3. Caracas. Beautiful setting, perfect weather. Damn you Chavez. I hate what you have
done to one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

  4. London. Culture personified. Who said it best? “If you are tired of London, you are tired
    of life”

  5. Pittsburgh. Home of the Steelers. Self-expanatory (perhaps this should be #1)

Samuel Johnson, who created the first comprehensive dictionary of the English language.

“Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford.”

In no particular order:

London
Paris
Lisbon
Munich
York

Kathmandu- the place is just so intense, old and fabled. It’s like living in a fairy tale.
Cape Town- hip little city in a breathtaking setting. It feels like the beating heart of Africa.
DC- Living here now, and it’s nothing but fun
San Francisco- My old haunts, great food
Mumbai- Overwhelming and unmanageable. I like it!

Beijing would make the list if they had better weather.

Honolulu would have to be up there too. It’s the only place in the US that even remotely feels like home to me anymore. Can’t beat the setting.

San Diego for the weather and the zoos.
New Orleans for the food.
Hong Kong for the shopping.
Chicago for the beer and pizza (sorry New York).
Any of several mountain cities in Colorado for the view. Winter Park is very nice.

I cannot believe how many people list Venice in their Top 5. How can you enjoy that place through all the dog feces and algae everywhere? Rude locals and over-priced food. And of course, the obligatory Pan Flute band playing in the background (so cultural).
