My feeling about Hendrix is that his first LP was incredible, one of the most ground-breaking albums in history, and his LPs after that never quite hit the same level… primarily because of very uneven songwriting. So, any list of my favorite Hendrix numbers pretty much starts with almost everything on that first LP.

Of his other stuff, the songs that reach the same level for me are “Angel”, “Little Wing” and “Voodoo Chile”. So let’s say I take those three and then add two from the first LP. Well, “The Wind Cries Mary” has to be on the list. But what takes the last spot? I think I’m going to have to go with “Third Stone from the Sun”, although on another day I might pick “May This Be Love”.

Little Wing
All Along the Watchtower
Voodoo Child
Hey Joe
Foxy Lady

The Wind Cries Mary
Hey Joe
All Along the Watchtower
Purple Haze

All Along the Watchtower: Hendryx turned Dylan’s song into an anti-war anthem; the opening riffs and solo work are stunning.
Manic Depression
Little Wing
Wind Cries Mary
: just because I like to play it
Purple Haze

Nailed it! End of thread. He also did a smokin’ version of Johhny B Goode (from Hendrix in the West, I believe).
