Top Chef Texas - Season 9 [combined thread]

Hardly an accusation that can be leveled against Sarah and only Sarah. There have been multiple contestants every season who have taken that attitude about one of their dishes. Even St. Richard Blais, if my memory is correct.

I find it odd so many people can’t see how manipulated most of the snark between contestants is on these type of shows. I work in the restaurant business in Chicago and have met or know several people who have been on Top Chef over the years. They all tell similar stories about how things are manipulated and distorted to create drama with comments taken out of context and edited to make it look like there is conflict where there isn’t.

I’m not saying there haven’t been chefs who were assholes or behaved like jerks, but I think Sarah’s behavior has been pretty small potatoes in comparison. If you went back and looked at this season I think you would see Heather was the one who treated Bev really nasty for most of the season.

Anyway, I think Paul is probably going to win this thing unless his nerves get the best of him.

Heather IIRC was the Mean Girls ringleader; Sarah was initially part of that group. As the numbers dwindled, she wasn’t nasty to Bev’s face, but she was behind Bev’s back.

I actually LOL’d when, at the start of the first BC episode, she said during her voiceover that this time she was striving to be a “nicer” person.

It’s not quite clear to me what the timeline of filming and airing episodes is, but when Sarah said that she was trying to be nicer, my first thought was that some of her friends had taken her aside and said, “We’ve been watching the show, and you’re coming off as quite the asshole.”

On the PLUS side for Sarah, I noticed that during the break, she had lost quite a bit of weight. Her neck and face are much slimmer, and the change really makes her eyes stand out.

I confess, because of the chef coats, I really couldn’t see much change in her body shape, but then, I’m not into checking out girls.

After a season of mediocrity, the finalists really brought their A games to the finale. Tom said it was the best finale performance ever. Strong words.

I liked the quickfire challenge to pick the sous chefs - Sara took a shot to get her favorite and got stuck with the meat hacker from the first episode, but it appears the one job they gave him to do he did very well. Besides him, the ones they picked were the best chefs of the group, both in talent and attitude.

Paul’s opening dish was so perfect for Padma and Tom, but complete shit for Hugh and Cat and the others.

So, good job on the finalists and the finale, but I am glad this season is done and over with.

Paul won

Nice guys do win sometimes. Paul’s been a class act and gentlemen all season. Good job winning Top Chef!!!

Woo Hoo!!!

The most deserving one won.

I was so nervous for him. I too am happy with this ending. I do hope the producers have been listening and cut back on all the high jinks. Just let these people cook.

I haven’t watched a season in its entirety since Hosea won but I watched some of this season because I interned at Spoetzl Brewery in the fall. I liked the guy who won. However, I liked all the Shiner beer they drank more

The FINAL CHALLENGE of the season was cooking for a hundred people? What a load of freaking BS. I’m glad Paul won but the people who came up with that idea should be tarred and feathered.

It’s not all that unusual a final challenge. In fact, it’s darned near common and happened as recently as … last season.

The idea is that a chef isn’t just a cook and has to have skills in running a kitchen and serving multiple tables. That’s why Restaurant Wars exists - it’s closer to the type of environment you’d expect real chefs to see on a daily basis.

Both final contestants have extensive experience doing so in some good restaurants. If you think cooking alone is sufficient, that’s an argument for Tyler Stone, professional Douche-Chef.

The further this thread progressed, the madder and madder I got at BravoTV and the Top Chef poo-bahs. So I boogied over to the BravoTV website and sent an email to protest the nonsense this season.

I wonder if I’ll hear back?

Congratulations, Paul!

And if I ever see that Tyler idiot again, it will be too soon.

Hugh Acheson noted the complaints about this season’s challenges in his blog. I’m sure they’re aware of how ridiculous they were, but who knows what direction they will go in moving forward.
