Top Chef Texas - Season 9 [combined thread]

Facial and head hair doesn’t bother me as much as the chefs who SWEAT into their food!

YUCK!

Yeah, that was the Cruise Ship Chef. If you’re that worried about making Top 16, how the hell are you going to deal with the later rounds?

I’m glad Keith (aka Black Santa) made it through. Looking forward to see what he can do with a seafood ingredient when it comes, since that’s his specialty.

What kind of a name is Ty-Lör?

Yea, this Danishsucker worries me. What is that, exactly? I know he’s a cruise boat chef, but why do I feel like something is not told. The Scandinavian chefs do have and hold prominent contemporary sway over the Gastronomie de la mer. I am surprised they haven’t shown up more often in the contest. But this guy…? I already feel the redheaded step child of the Hotelier. Only to be shown up by this mustachioed poseur?

I wonder if he has a Snow Dog?

Tough challenge for the third group!

They each picked their item, and were surprised with a timer.

That was tough. I was pretty happy with who they moved on.

I like Grayson already. And Audry, I think her name was. Those previews were fun. I love the small bit they showed of Padma with the snakes.

I wish they’d condensed the winnowing down to just one episode. It’s hard to care about so many people you don’t know about very well.

Anyone watching Last Chance Kitchen? The last eliminated contestant can compete to stay in the competition. I don’t think it’s a great idea, as potentially someone could win the whole competition without competing on the regular show.

In the original thread about “TC” I said the same thing.

I was confused about the timeline- did that happen over 2 days or just one? Because the people in the stew room didn’t seem to go anywhere and were all sitting in the same spot the whole time. But Padma was in a different dress. Did she change her dress so she wouldn’t be wearing the same one two episodes in a row?

And what picture of her did 29 year old risotto dude have on his locker in middle school? I hope it was from the movie Glitter.

The timeline was confusing to me as well. They kept cutting from the competition, to the people in the “dorms,” to the people in the bubble room. I kept thinking, wait, it’s night and the winners are getting themselves settled in, and there’s still others stewing, waiting to compete for the first time? Do they have to sleep in there? My conclusion was that it was all in one day and yes, some contestants were kept hanging around for literally hours, but that as soon as a group was “in,” they were sent to check in to their lodgings.

I’ve enjoyed seeing the process of getting down to the top 16 for the most part but now I’m ready for the serious competition to get started!

Did anybody else think Ed cut his hand by trying to bayonet a bottle of Worcestershire sauce? Pretty grand gesture, maybe why he wanted to work through looking like a dumbass (if I’m right).

I also thought I saw a shot of Ed later in the episode where his hand was not bandaged at all and wondered what that was all about.

I’ve asked a mod to combine the two previous threads with this one, since we’re not getting a lot of action on the weekly threads.

Anyway -

Quickfire RATTLESNAKE!

Has anybody ever eaten it?

I’m glad we’re finally down to 16 contestants. Maybe we’ll get to know them now.

I’ve only seen the first two.

Man, Grayson is cute. Also, did the guy Tom sent home for his terrible butchering skill creep anyone else out? He has unblinking psycho eyes.

He seemed quite strange, yes.

I was thinking along the same lines about the thread merge. Good idea.

I have had rattlesnake in the past. It was battered and deep fried. Of course that made it tasty.

Given his culinary background and the type of food he makes so very well, if Chuy doesn’t see to it his team wins it will be very embarrassing.

At the OP’s request, I’ve combined a couple of the weekly threads into one thread for the whole season.
