Top secret question

What is the highest US government security clearance? What security clearance does the President of the US have?

Security clearances are explained here…

They will kill you if you find out.

I believe the clearance the President has is Top Secret/Presidential. Keep in mind, no matter what one’s security clearance might be, there is still “need to know”. The President has the highest possible clearance, but he doesn’t need to know, for example, what encryption code a 2nd Class Petty Officer with a Top Secret/Crypto clearance might need to know to perform his assigned duties.

The Department of Energy has a different clearance structure. An L clearance is sort of between Confidential and Secret and a Q clearance is sort of between Secret and Top Secret. They may have more levels, I didn’t need to know.

Other organizations may have their own security clearance structure.

Ranger is there really a level Q clearance? I always figured it was something made up by Bob Lazar.

Somebody please tell my boss!

There really is a Q clearance. When and where I worked, the Q meant that one could access top secret/classified information on a need-to-know basis.

(I never needed to know anything.)

Cite please?

Cite for Q clearance? Here. The definition is: “DOE or NRC clearance for SRD, TSFRD, or TSNSI.”

The abbreviations mean:
DOE - Department of Energy
NRC - Nuclear Regulatory Commission
SRD - Secret Restricted Data
TSFRD - Top Secret Formerly Restricted Data
TSNSI - Top Secret National Security Information

Oh. I thought this was about Top Secret: The Movie.

“Don’t mind him, he’s just a little hoarse.”

I used to work at a DOE facility that made triggers for nuclear bombs. Almost every employee had a Q-clearance, including me.

Well I had a Q-clearance. Is that a good enough cite? But I guess I could be lying…

Smeghead - That made me laugh just thinking about it.

God I love that movie (still a big kid at heart)
