It was kind of a rip off for the guy who was eliminated this week. The blue plate he shot to get eliminated was swinging in line with the red plate. Random luck gave him a no win situation.
I find it funny that blue team eliminated their historical firearms expert when scenes for next week show the teams using historical firearms. Nice timing.
I want to see them play “Horse.” Maybe the field has to get a bit smaller, but give them the practice session to get a few lined up. Then draw straws for order.
If you make your shot, everybody else has to try and then you go again, but your next shot you have to change two out of three out of weapon, distance, target type.
I suspect the contestants will be considerably more creative than the producers.
Random luck had the two plates swinging in sync with each other (or maybe more of an epic fail by however the plates were released). It wasn’t that the plates had crossed each other at that particular time.
Well Sunday’s show was exciting, if a little sudden. To go so slowly as to seem like 1/3 of the show is needless filler to slamming on the accelerator and eliminating three people in one go seemed quite jarring. I’d have been fine with just two, bringing it to 5, then 3, then 1 over the course of three shows, but apparently they just want this done with. But perhaps I’m just sad because I wanted Kelly to win. Oh well.
Next season, if there is a next season, they’re going to need some massive retooling of timing and challenges. I don’t know much about guns, but I’m available for consultation on the show, if, you know, a producer is reading.
I think Kelly showed a great deal of poise for all the shit they put him through. And do you think that the plan was to originally eliminate 4 people? Consider that the female shooter left voluntarily last week after the elimination, because of her father’s terminal illness.
I thought the final challenge was one of the best yet. The targets seemed pretty big, though. I think if Kelly hadn’t had to go first, he wouldn’t have been eliminated.
I watched it for the first time Aug 8. It was very impressive shooting. That last challenge running up the hill and shooting from platforms seemed difficult. But, no one missed a target. So, maybe the targets need to be another 10 yards away?
There’s a reason very little of the Olympic shooting is televised. It can be like watching paint dry. I enjoy shooting targets and appreciate the skills of marksmen. But, I don’t hang around the range watching others shoot.
I’ll watch the final next week. If there is a second season I may tune in more. Maybe they’ll find a way to make it more interesting.
Maybe they covered this is the show and I missed it. For at least the last two weeks, Kelly has had what looks like a piece of tape over the left lens of his shooting glasses. It’s pretty obvious when he steps up to the firing line. My brother claims to have seen Olympic shooters do the same thing on occasion but can’t offer an explanation about why it’s done. My guess it’s that it’s some correction for an eye dominance issue. Can any DOPER share some insight into this?
I don’t know for sure, but maybe it’s a way for him to be able to keep both eyes open while shooting and still just use one eye to aim, thus avoiding the eye muscle strain you can get from trying to keep your off eye closed.
He’s had it every week. And I don’t believe they covered it on the show, but the History Channel message boards agree it’s a way to force using only the dominant eye.
