Top Ten Comics by Alan Moore - Have you read it?

I know there a lot of Alan Moore fans on the SDMB, but I hadn’t heard of this series. I borrowed a collected, graphic novel set of the first 12 issues or so.

Really good stuff - as described on Amazon.com, basically like Hill Street Blues in a superhero setting. Every citizen has some sort of superpowers, including the cops, but the focus is on the relationships, the mundanity and the occasional adrenaline-surging, scary moment when action is required.

Moore uses the possibilities of superpowers, other dimensions, and other superhero comics’ ideas to explore a variety of human conditions. The characters drew me in.

How about you guys - do you like this series? Where would you put this series in a ranking of other Moore works like the Watchmen, V for Vendetta and From Hell? I suspect it would rank lower simply because it is not as intense and cerebral as these other series, but I would interested in your thoughts…

I liked it, but it wasn’t wholly unique like a lot of his other works. I dare say, I liked the art more than the story. Vast scenes with a lot of “easter eggs” hidden.

It was far and away my favorite of Moore’s ABC work, possibly excluding the wonderful Greyshirt shorts from Tomorrow Stories.

Surprisingly, it is quite funny in places, much more than any of the supposed humor stories in Tomorrow Stories. I recommend Top Ten to any Moore fans, and I believe artist Zander Cannon occasionally posts on Straight Dope!

I really enjoyed Top Ten. Perhaps not the best of Moore’s work, but up near the top and certainly a lot of fun.

Well then, let me just take a moment to say that Zander Cannon is probably the most talented comic artist in the history of the known universe. And that he should in no way feel obligated to work my name into the background of one of his comics.
