No matter how hard I tried, I simply could not get that solo on my soprano flute. I could get plenty of others, including “Moondance,” and “Nights in White Satin,” and others. Then I found out that “California Dreamin’s” solo was performed on alto flute, and it all made sense then, as to why I couldn’t get it on soprano flute.

I can see the logic – you blow into it to play it, but trumpeta (along with bugles, cornets, baritone horns, trombones, tubas, French horns, and Sousaphones) are generally categorized as brass instruments, separate from wind instruments.

EXCEPT - what you’re describing are WOODWIND instruments vs. BRASS instruments. In marching band competitions, they give awards to “Best Percussion” and “Best Winds”, with “Winds” being described (basically) as “things you blow into”. so trumpet, trombone, etc. are included. Title says “Winds”, so I’d allow it.
