BB, I think you’re confusing the terms “wind” and “woodwind.” Brass instruments are very much wind instruments.

I’ll agree in principle. In that case, I guess a calliope or a pipe organ would therefore be a wind instrument too.
But since horns have their own category (brass), I feel that is their proper niche rather than being lumped in with the woodwinds and other instruments played by having air blow into or across them. That’s like saying since a violin is played by drawing a bow across a taut string, it could also be considered a percussion instrument.

Nope. Strings, because the primary mode of playing is drawing a bow or by plucking. Pianos are percussion because the sound comes from a hammer hitting the strings internally. Not my designation.
