@gkster : the chronology on Mellencamp’s nom de music was: Johnny Cougar / John Cougar / John Cougar Mellencamp / John Mellencamp. “Cougar” was the result of his first manager feeling that his real name wouldn’t sell records, and “John Cougar Mellencamp” was a transitional name, used so as to not confuse fans too much while he gradually transitioned away from using “Cougar.”
