The First Record You Bought (or, if the first record you bought was an album, a song from it)

  1. Convoy - C.W. McCall
  2. Gall in the Family Fare - Mad Magazine
  3. Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting - Elton John

It might not have literally been the first, but it’s the earliest single I recall having and playing frequently.

Brand new record, just hit the charts, right? So I brought it home and put it on the record player.
All of a sudden here’s my mom coming into the room, singing the lyrics! Boggled my mind, until she dragged out an old 78-rom record from HER collection with the exact same song on it.
Moral of story — there ain’t nuthin’ new under the sun!
