Skool Daze - Pat Drummond
“The one thing I learned from school
If I learned anything at all
That if you can’t play the game of life
You’d better own the ball.”
The lyrics are about a drug bust at Bard College in 1969, in upstate New York, which occurred while Donald Fagen and Walter Becker were students there. Fagen was among those arrested in the bust. The song also mentions “Daddy Gee” a local assistant district attorney who was involved in the incident: this was G. Gordon Liddy, who went on to infamy as one of Richard Nixon’s “plumbers” in the Watergate scandal.
