I’m watching the Women’s Freestyle competition. I destroyed a knee skiing in high school (and both knees in a car crash just out of high school a year later), so I never got into mogul skiing. I worked at a ski shop and one of my coworkers bit through his tongue when a mogul pushed his knee into his jaw. (Serves him right for skiing with his tongue out.)
Still, they’re amazing to watch. I can only dream of having knees that will do that! But it’s not entirely an objective sport. Time counts, but skiiers are also scored subjectively on their aerials – like figure skating.
Watching mogul skiing makes my knees hurt! I’ve never attempted it, nor do I have bad knees, but i can only imagine!
Jennifer Heil of Canada won the gold medal - good start to the Games, since Canada has said their goal is 25 mdeals this year! Did you notice that when she got onto the podium, she was introduced as being from the US? I’m watching the CBC and I’m actually thinking it’s weird that no one really seemed to either notice, or cared to comment about it, even when they interviewed her. I think it’s funny. We do tend to joke about Alberta being just another US state…
I’m watching the Canada-Italy Women’s hockey game. Currently at 7-0 for the Canadians, 3 minutes into the 2nd period. I kind of want the Italians to score at least one goal!
I caught that too, and I was sure it would be the sort of thing they’d replay over and over on the news, because it’s so funny (and her expression was priceless), but they barely mentioned it on the 11pm news tonight.
Still, it was a damn good performance and she deserved that medal. Go Canada!
