TOSlink cable will not connect into my new Toshiba tv

Hi SDMB,
I just got a new Toshiba tv and the Toslink cable will not connect into the tv. It goes most of the way in but wont click into place. I am afraid to push too hard and potentially damage something. Any clue what could be the issue? The cable is from 2012 so has the design perhaps changed?

And yes, I took off the plastic endcaps:) Both ends connect just fine into the sound bar.

TOSlink doesn’t have a positive latching connector. it just has a little “nub” on the cable which is supposed to help hold it in place, but if the tolerances have loosened up then the cable won’t firmly “seat” in the jack.
