We got quite a good view of the total lunar eclipse from Sydney this (Wednesday) morning. Totality commenced at 5.52am and we saw about half an hour’s worth of the total stage before the moon set and the sun rose around 6.30am.
Interesting- this was the third total lunar eclipse in a row, and the next one will be total, too. Or maybe that’s not interesting; I’m no astronomer and I don’t know how many it takes to be unusual.
I was about to be upset that I didn’t see this one, but then of course I saw that I’m on the wrong side of the planet anyway. Last time (November) the moon was right out my window and I didn’t even have to go outside to see the eclipse. I suppose it’ll be the same next time, in October. Interesting to see, but nowhere near as cool as a total solar eclipse.
Yes, the total lunar eclipse of 27/28 October should be visible in its entirety from the eastern states of the US.
There’s also a partial solar eclipse a fortnight earlier, on 14th October, but that won’t be visible in either Australia or mainland US.
