Can I get a 2000-words-or-fewer explanation of the history and organization of the Bowl games? I understand some are more prestigious than others, but is there any objective ranking involved?
The Rose Bowl is the first and greatest. Everything else is a rip-off and it’s a disgrace that they are given equal footing. That’s all you really need to know. (Why, yes, I’m from southern California, why?)
Friend Neurotik’s provincialism aside, try this link. (You’ll have to scroll down a bit. ) Bowl games started out as tourist attractions for the host city, and at heart that’s all they ever were and are. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

And fuck your basketball team too…the only shame about last night was that we had to take you to double overtime to win.
Let’s see, if ND joins the Big East for football it will get to play Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, UConn, West Virginia, Louisville and Cincinnati every year (no offense to those fine schools, but big whoop) and will have to share a lucrative home tv package that it gets to keep all of right now. ND would have to trade a national schedule that for a provincial one. Maybe the Irish will join the Big 10 some day - and maybe Penn State and Boston College will join the Big East where they belong - but I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for the Irish football team to join the Big East.
I agree with their greedy logic, I disagree that they should be involved in sniping Big East bowl bids when they’re not affiliated with the Big East in football. Why not steal the Big Ten’s bowl bids…or heaven forbid, force them to join some conference, any conference.
I’d never want Boston College back. Morally bankrupt institution…not because it’s Catholic, but because of, “oh yeah, we’ll sue the ACC…oh wait, you want us to join? Yeah, forget what I said about being part of the lawsuit and how those ACC guys suck.” In fact, fuck the entire fuckfaced ACC while we’re at it.
But back to the OP…fuck Notre Dame.
