Inspired by Bricker and MaxTheVool, I’ve decided to start my own trivia thread. And since I’m not as smart or as well-rounded as these two august individuals, I decided to focus where I focus best: pop culture that I personally enjoy. It was a tossup whether to put them here or MPSIMS, but since they are pop culture, I figured putting 'em here was the best bet.
I’ll start with ten questions, and see how the response goes, and how quickly they get answered. Then I’ll put up ten more as I think of 'em. Even if this fizzles, I figure it’ll give y’all a glimpse into what kind of stuff I like (and finding out more about me is always good). We’ll see how it goes!
One has a Moomba, the second a PuuPuu. What does the third have?
What mystery author is most associated with the “dying message” clue?
Speaking of dying messages, what was Orca’s (Bear’s?)?
What character’s name was misspelled in the closing credits of X2: X-Men United?
“C’mon, Treble!” What would he have said in the Japanese version?
Which object drove its victims to death with their worst fears, and was the only one to actually offer its dark services to the protagonists?
What two companies merged to form Dilbert’s company?
Hallie Takahama was the only one who didn’t know what was really going on… Not at first, anyway.
What was the number of the room that guarenteed that “Ten Nights in Ten Haunted Hotels” would never be published?
Well I know #9 is from a Stephen King short story and I think the name of the story is the number of the room, but I can’t remember it and can’t find it on the web.
I don’t recall the two companies, but I know that, when merged, it was Path-Ethic Management. And that name was changed – and the new name not revealed – at the end of the episode of the cartoon, so officially, the company is not named anywhere.
However, in one Dilbert strip, Dogbert suggested a name for the company which he came up with using a computer program that combines a randomly chosen celestial body with a randomly chosen name of a company that already exists. What was the name?
Whee! #'s 2, 4, 5, and 9 have been answered correctly (#1, though wrong, is definitely on the right track).
As for the discussion over #7… I don’t remember the episode involving the company changing names, but my memory may be mistaken. To give the answer right now to perhaps straighten it out (and because the posters are just one step removed from getting it), the two merged companies were Pathway Electronics and E-Technology. And the name Dogbert came up with was Uranus-Hertz.
An added hint for #6… To make it slightly easier, I could’ve asked, “what cursed object…” If that’s not enough, I can add still another detail later.
As for #3, it’ll be extremely difficult unless you’re as much a fanboy of a certain franchise as I am… But then, that’s why I said it could be tough going!
And #1 and #10 are both answered correctly! (#1’s right answer is cactaur - look at the Mascot outfits of FFX-2.)
For those who are still scratching their heads, here is what the others refer to (where not obvious): 5) The Mega Man series of games, 9) As mentioned, the Stephen King short story (found in print only in his anthology Everything’s Eventual, and 10) The White Wolf World of Darkness RPGs, specifically Werewolf: the Apocalypse.
So here are a few more questions for your enjoyment, with the unanswered three:
There is one particular Iron Chef win that stands out above all the others in American minds, mostly because of the nationality of the winner and the scores involved. What was the theme ingredient? For bonus points, describe the winning dishes as best you can.
A cartographer, a treasure hunter, a gravedigger, and an anarchist got together for a card game party. Who was the fifth who completed their little gathering?
You think you’ve got a rough job? Try carrying a stone sacrificial altar hundreds of miles on your back! Or being “promoted” to the front of the line to “scout out” traps! Oh, well, at least there’s plenty of duct tape around…
It’s been so long since I’ve read the books, but did Alice meet Tweedledum and Tweedledee before or after the Mad Tea Party? I don’t know how I could’ve possibly gotten confused about it…
Now, who was that guy who had the beat-up Peugeot and had this wife you always heard about, but never saw? He’s the one who made all those cool Harry Potter movies, right?
When he became Clint Hill, he helped make history. More than make it, actually.
When you bring in a cute animal to help your demographics, next time try to make sure it’s JUST cute, as opposed to cute AND short tempered AND selfish AND violent AND…
“I do not like thee… The reason why I cannot tell; But this I know, I know full well, I do not like thee…” Maybe it’s because he keeps getting mixed up in impossible crimes!
You’re watching a hilarious series. What do you do? A) Laugh as they parody yet another popular genre each episode, B) Guess when one of the protagonists will die (again), or C) Put it in!
What is Adrian Monk’s favorite (er, ONLY) brand of bottled water?
Speaking of dying messages, what was Orca’s (Bear’s?)?
Which cursed object drove its victims to death with their worst fears, and was the only one to actually offer its dark services to the protagonists?
Hallie Takahama was the only one who didn’t know what was really going on… Not at first, anyway.
15, 17, 18, and 20 are all knocked down! 14 is basically correct, but I didn’t get all I wanted out of the answer - that was my fault. My question was mostly a jab at the Disney version of Alice, which fused stuff from Through the Looking Glass into the original book, thus the statement on “how could I have gotten it confused?” I’ll be clearer next time!
Still a lotta questions out there… I’m eager to see who knows as much about some of these as I do!
