Touted Democratizing Domino Effect in ME, or Expected Terrorist Spike?

In this artice in Ha’aretz Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary General of Hezbollah, suggests that the key to getting the US out of Iraq is to take a greater interest in the democratic processes of a country with a more established democratic tradition.

It’s obvious that Nasrallah is calling for greater attention to the American political process from his listeners. He’s advocating that ME Muslims advocate for democratic political change even though it may mean “making sacrifices for the cause.”

Some may say that this is an example of the spike in terrorist activities expected by intelligence/ national security experts such as Robert L. Hutchings, Chairman, National Intelligence Council to result from the US-led invasion of Iraq.

BUT, I say that this could be the democratic domino effect predicted by the neo-con cabal in the Bush admin. Obviously, there’s an increased interest in our democratic form of government. This interest will spread throughout the ME.

Seems a little condescending, ainnit? “Oh, these poor ignorant A-rabs, they don’t know anything about democracy! Let’s set up an example here so they can learn the right way to govern!” It’s not like they don’t get CNN or transatlantic flights over in the ME, you know?

I don’t think there’s any way in hell Nasrallah is calling for democratic societies. Hezbollah remains committed to the Palestinian intifada, so he’s sure not recommending democracy there, and Hezbollah is of Iranian origin (afaik) which is another country not impressed with democratic reform agendas. The simplest solution is probably the correct one: he’s encouraging the Iraqi resistance against the Americans to enact change within the US.

He’s advocating that ME Muslims advocate for democratic political change in the US.

I’m asking the mods to move this to the Pit with its inspirational thread.

I forgot my sarcasm smilie in the OP. Sorry.

I wrote this thread in response to the ludicrous thread started by december.

It seemed like a good idea at the time. I wasn’t clear enough in my OP.
My humble apologies.

To nitpick as I did in the other thread. Hezbollah is Lebanese, not Palestinian. It is financially and militarily backed by the Iranians, and to some extent Syria as well (Lebanon is occupied by Syria). Hezbollah is committed to kicking the Israelis out of Lebanon. That the Israelis left Lebanon three years ago seems to be of little concern.

Moderator’s Note: Off it goes.

I can’t even keep up with these parody threads anymore. This one seemed to be counter-spin to december’s interpretation of the Hezbollah speaker’s comments. december claims it is an increase in terrorism in response to a perception of weakness(the fracturing of American opinion on the foreign policy RE: Iraq) and this post spins it in the opposite direction, saying “Look! Some ME leaders are beginning to understand how democracy works. There may be hope for this political system in the region.”

Both are rediculous, but one was intentionnally so.

Enjoy,
Steven

Aren’t you afraid Spike Lee will sue you over your thread title?

If he does, maybe I’ll get famous and be on TV.
