I don’t feel like I can compare them (and I’m not a huge TS fan) but I really, really enjoyed #3 today. Tons of fun. I did especially love Spanish Buzz, and I teared up at the Andy/Bonnie transfer.
I enjoyed the short a lot, but I think it would have been much better without the radio broadcast bit–they were already showing, they didn’t need to tell. Or to hit us over the head with a big ol’ Morality Mallet.
It’s 2-3-1 for me, in declining order of preference. The storytelling and animation have gotten so much more sophisticated over the years, but as a whole this one didn’t entertain or move me as much as the second.
Mr. Tortilla head was great, the inferno was spectacular, and I smiled at the the return of Emperor Zurg during the end credits. But for me it took too long to really engage and never did pull me in like the second one.
Still, kudos to Pixar for successfully pulling off a trilogy of highly entertaining films without ever losing a handle on what made the original successful. That doesn’t happen very often.
My thoughts exactly (though I also preferred the 1st over this one). I was also disappointed by the lack of setting changes; it slowed the pace considerably, as compared to the first two.
