I believe that the programming language that MIT & LEGO devised for MindStorm is very easy to follow and understand. Unfortunately, I remember wishing for some more control, too. I wish they had an advanced language, too. It’s been too long to remember the specifics on this, but I’d recomend Mindstorm for anyone who liked motorized erector sets.
hmmm, haven’t thought about Erector sets in a while…
Well, I have too many to mention, really. I have a collection in my living room. My favorite of the moment, though, is my Tomy Wonderful Watertoy. You know those water filled things where you push a button and it squirts air into it, sending little rings up and hopefully around a set of rods. I was looking for one for a few months, and found one on my trip to San Francisco several weeks ago. Some others include View-master, Magic 8-ball, Barrel of Monkeys, Lite-Brite, Hoberman sphere, and the Snoopy Snow-Cone Machine.
This life is a test. It is only a test. If it had been an actual life, you would have received further instructions on where to go and what to do.
Wow, where to start? I miss my Merlin, broke in the mid-eighties. And, etch-a-sketch, and definitely Lego’s. And Silly Putty, and SLinky, I love my slinky, metal is the only way to go. And Lincoln Logs, and Tinker Toys, and let’s see, what else? Oh, and I have way more stuffed animals right now than both of my kids put together, and I used to have an antique doll collection, until it was stolen coming back from the Philippines.
And all the board games there are-well, almost all. Scrabble, cribbage Monopoly are my favorites. sigh Oh, the memories, the memories…

Don’t make me come down there.

My girl and I were discussing the other night which one of the figurines would most likely survive if they all suddenly came to life and began fighting each other. We set aside the powers of the Force, which introduces too many unknown elements such as mind-control, telekinesis, etc. I figured that the Rancor would probably have little trouble tearing up and/or devouring many of the poorly equipped figures, like the Ewoks, Jawas, Watto, Jar-Jar (thank God), Grand Moff Tarkin, and others, but would not survive long against the multiple blasters of the stormtroopers, battle droids, the various Han Solos, and so forth. The light-saber wielding types would likely get gunned down in the massive crossfire, and the absolutely defenseless, such as the droids and Yoda, would be trampled or blown to bits.
Finally, after much speculation, I determined that it would be Boba Fett (the special edition, tricked out with rockets and special armor) who would emerge victorious, unbound by the limits of gravity, taking out everyone from above. Sure, Darth Maul could hop on his little speeder bike to even things out a bit, but really, Boba Fett’s technology would be far superior.
How about that big yellow GI Joe helicopter and a couple years later the sinister “capture copter.”
The red and white water rocket. You put water into a small rocket and pumped it full of air to increase the pressure then let it fly. More often than not it ended up on top of a neighbors roof.
Prop Shots, small plane with a big propeller shot off a holder with a draw string, it would fly a good 100 yards. It was a lethal anit-punk weapon if it hit you at close range it left a respectful bruise.
Man, what great adventures I had with those guys! The old ones that were about 12" tall! They were practically indestructable! Not the sucky little 6" GI Joes that came out a few years ago.
My folded tin gas station city with an elevator to move cars up to the upper parking lot. It could fold into a suitcase kind of box when you were through. Anyone remember those?
I too used to have a lot of fun with my Hot Wheels, and I love the sound that the turbo thingy made (the one referenced above with the two foam wheels inside). Alas, all my Hot Wheels memories are not good ones… Have you had your ass spanked by a hot wheels track? It’s not a pretty sight.
I used to have a lot of fun with my SST car, but I seem to remember something around that same time built the same way, but it designed to be driven into a wall and fall apart. Then you’d snap all the pieces back on again, and crash into another car or wall. What were those called? Anyone remember?
What was the name of the little helicopter that just went round and round in a 3 foot circle or so, and you could control its speed and height. The idea was that you could pick up little objects assuming you had them the exact distance away from the center of the toy. I had a lot of fun with that one too.
