Track and Field World Championships have been exciting this year

I am not a huge fan of track & field sports but this competition has had some exciting and dramatic competitions. This is not a complete list:

• Team USA claims WORLD RECORD via SHOCKING 4x400 mixed relay finish at Worlds | NBC Sports (this is perhaps the most dramatic…thrilling and heartbreaking)

• Americans take gold and silver in historic, stunning discus final at Worlds | NBC Sports

Honest question:

In the OP’s first link the runner falls and loses her baton. She gets up and crosses the finish line in third, but without the baton. Did she come in third or was she disqualified for not having the baton in hand?
