Trader Joe's Italian Sausage-less Sausage

From time to time I like to try something new, and often that comes from Trader Joe’s. This time I’ve tried their Italian Sausage-less Sausage.

Now, I’ll eat anything that scurries around and begs for mercy. But I also enjoy vegetarian fare just for a change. Some things I’ve tried are very good. Others I won’t have again. Some things are ‘just OK’. I like the Italian Sausage-less Sausages. They have a nice texture and a good flavour. They’d be good in a bun (perhaps with some sauce and provolone cheese), on a pizza (with sauce and mozzarella), or any other way you’d eat Italian sausages. I’ve just had one plain, nuked in the microwave oven and eaten from a paper towel. Yesterday I sliced up a couple and nuked them with quattro formaggio. (I forgot I had sauce.)

I’m giving this one a thumbs-up.

What the heck is a sausage-less sausage? What qualities of sausage does it actually have?

I’m guessing it’s some sort of textured plant protein, done up like sausage, BigT. Is that a surprising concept to you? Meatless “meats” have been pretty popular among vegetarians for years, and there are frequent threads about them around here.

Tube-shaped seasoned soy protein. It has all of the qualities of sausage, only with soy instead of deadpig in it. Pretty tasty, says I; but I know some vegetarians either don’t like fake meat, or else they are opposed to the ‘deception’. Pig, soy… I don’t care, me!
