Obviously local variations apply – in the NZ version of Ground Force the first thing to be ripped out is always the rotary clothesline.
Yep, I’m hopelessly addicted.
NZ gets the UK Changing rooms, and Oz’s Backyard Blitz and has its own version of Changing Rooms, and Ground Force, plus more seriously DIY focused shows like DIY fantasies where the team completely re-fit a room to a very high standard (still a surprise for one of the owners – but with considerable consultation). Last night’s show was a bedroom from plain to opulent with a final cost of NZ$50,000.
Good fun (though with too much human interest/soppy stuff) was DIY Disasters (fixing them that is) where the show would rescue some poor woman with a complete fix of the disaster perpetrated by her mate.
(Almost invariably it is the male of the species who goes DIY mad and tears the family home apart. Kiwi males are inveterate DIYers many of whom would put Tool Time’s Tim to shame for destructive capabilities. They tend to start on a room, tear off the gib-board (drywall) rip off scotia and skirtings, tear up the floor and then get confused as to how to fix it… so then they go to the next room and begin there).
Some of the DIY atrocities had to be seen to be believed.
