That show is so queer and so freakin’ addictive at the same time. Only problem is I have yet to see a room make-over that I would like. That red head is a hottie though…and opinions? (about the show, or otherwise)
I LOVE the show, and I like the blonde headed designer’s rooms every time. I have yet to see one of her rooms I didn’t like.
I watch the show for inspiration on my own house!! I’d LOVE to be on it as long as Hildy wasn’t my designer. She always paints things Black and Grey, and she also glued wheat to someone’s wall once. EEK!
I guess that’s my opinion!
:D:D
It’s obvious to me that you’ve only seen the show a few times. By “that red head”, I assume you mean the one with the rather short hair who is one of the hosts, and not the one with the longer, curly hair who is a designer. Rest assured, they will both be annoying the hell out of you if you watch with any regularity.
As far as you not seeing a room makeover that you like, I can only assume, (and perhaps bet money on it), that this is because you have been subjected to Frank’s pitiful attempts at creating art work for the walls of the rooms that he and his cohorts regulary ruin on a weekly, or dare I say, a nightly basis.
Paige is extremely cute. I don’t remember the red-headed designers name, but she’s a little annoying.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a Playboy “Women of Trading Spaces.”
the red-headed designer’s name is Laurie, and she usually does pretty good rooms. Franks generally suck, unless it is a kids room. Hilde’s are hit and miss. The circus one was scary as was the hay on the walls one. Genevieve’s (blond girl) are usually pretty neat, except when she put moss on the walls! Dougs were freakish early on, but have been getting better in recent episodes. Unfortunately, he gets in fights with the homeowners, particularly the women, all the time! The best designer is Vern! He does the nicest (and tamest) rooms. He is an architech by fault so he uses a lot of clean lines. Yeah, so maybe I am obsessed with the show a bit! TLC 4:00 M-F!!! The worst is when they have marathons of the show! i just sit there for hours, mesmerized!!!
I like the show as well, tho’ 1 or 2 episodes per week is my max.
But on to the important stuff - ranking the women’s hotness factor! (NOTE: personality counts)
- Genevieve
- Amy Wynn
- Laurie
- Paige (hot and cute, but just WAY too annoying)
- Hilde
And to be an equal-opportunity sexist…my wife’s choices
- Ty
- Vern
- Doug
- Frank
Did we leave any out?
You left out the reason that your wife thinks Frank is sexy.
Frank is a hoot, although I did not like his 50s diner kitchen on 9/28.
The previews for the 10/5 show look scary. Doug is throwing another prima donna fit, and it looks like he’s painting zebra stripes on the wall.
I like Ed Walker. He seems to be able to pull everything together.
Vern is a delight. He could paint pink polka dots on a purple wall and it would work.
Hildy just scares me. She gets wants to try things without testing them…case in point, using a rug shampooer to dye a carpet. Fortunately the homeowner put her foot down and said no.
Did anyone notice Paige’s low cut shirt on 9/28, and how she covered up her chest when she leaned over the dishwasher?
"queer" excuse me King Friday- WTF do you mean exactly? Was this some sort of attempt at an insult?
Show comments for the rest of you. Vern is the King. Frank’s stuff is too country for me- but he has a nice touch with kitchens. The new guy- Edward is looking promising.
OOh there is a new guy?
I want to see an episode where Ty (droool) and Amy accidentally on purpose slip with some big nasty carpentry equipment and leave a damp pile of bloody pulp where Hilde used to be standing.
Vern is cute, and seems to be one of the better ones, but his designs aren’t my taste. All those “clean lines” and stuff just aren’t me.
Yes, the show is addictive. My husband can’t stand it so I watch it with my son.
My list is the same, although I might flip Gen and Amy Wynn. It’s a tough choice.
As for room designers, the list is pretty much the same. I’d probably have no problem letting Gen design the room, Laurie would be OK as long as she goes easy on her art projects. If Hilde were doing my room, I’d instruct my neighbors to lock her in the basement and put out lawn furniture.
For the male designers, substitute Vern for Gen, Frank for Laurie and Doug for Hilde.
I pretty much agree on the order of hotness already described. As for designers I’d want doing my home, the order would be:
Vern
Genevieve
Laurie
Doug
Frank
Hildi
(I haven’t seen the new ones yet)
Why Doug over Frank? Because Doug’s train wrecks are awful, but about half the time he makes stuff I can live with. Frank, on the other hand, only has ONE trick, and that’s his country crap. He has no idea when to quit. “I’m not sure this room has enough froo-froo in it, so let’s get us a goose wearing a straw hat and then I’ll paint vines all over everything!” With Doug, there’s a chance I’ll hate it. With Frank, I know I will.
Hehe. Yup. And everyone always GUSHES over his AMAZING ARTWORK… um. Hokaaay.
Eh. People like Frank, what can I say? You and I may want Vern to do a room in our house, but the people who get Frank’s rooms invariably love them (remember the screaming lady on Saturday? Geezus–I think she opened a garage door or two with that screech.) As I put in the Trading Spaces LJ community, Frank is the McDonalds of designers–the majority of people seem to like him a lot, but you’ve still got people who think he’s gross.
And those zebra stripes next week? Please, Doug–don’t do it.

I love the show, but since I’ve moved we haven’t had the time to get more than just basick cable. In my area that means that I don’t get TLC, so annoying! Trying to decide it it’s worth the extra $30 to get more than just basic so I can watch all those great shows on TLC, not just Trading Spaces.
I really like Vern’s designs too. I loved the one where Doug did the Matisse inspired gigantic murals on the walls of a couple’s bedroom. I really wish I had a neighbor who I could “trade spaces” with but no such luck, all my neighbors are of a different generation than me and I don’t even own the house I live in, oh well. Hopefully the show will still be on 5-10 years from now when I may be buying a house
I second that!
uh-oh. here come the word usage police…
Certainly, there’s nothing wrong with a little ambiguity in life, is there?
I didn’t feel like bringing up before, but yeah, I had noticed that the OP called TS “queer.” I was just hoping that he (or she) meant that it was, literally, queer–like, what an odd concept for a show, right? Perhaps the OP would like to clarify?
