Trading Spaces

A good friend whose name [sub]evilbeth[/sub] I won’t mention got me hooked on this show. It’s on TLC and the premise is that neighbors are given $1000 and are allowed to completely remake a room of their neighbors house and vice versa. The catch is that they only have 48 hours to do it, and they can’t see what’s happening to their room until the other team is finished. Is anyone else getting to be as much of a fan of this show as I am?

‘Trading Spaces’ is the US equivalent of ‘Changing Rooms’ in the UK.

‘Changing Rooms’ is populated by Designers who are So Very Self-Important but who are really Full Of Shit.

Hopefully ‘Trading Spaces’ will soon show an episode where one of the victims is so unhappy with the outcome of their new room that they look around for someone to hit. Those are the best ones.

One of the Designers on ‘Changing Rooms’ is a Mr. Laurence Llewellyn Bowen. I harbour feelings for this man. I fully intend, one day, to dress in painter & decorator mode, drive round to his house, break in, decorate his bedroom to my own personal bizarre taste and quietly leave.

This will be done.

Oh Euty ! I love that show ! Every weekday at 3 pm central time I am in front of my television watching it. I have seen some of the rooms they’ve done and thought to myself " I would have to kill anyone who did that to my room"

Having said that, Frank is my favorite designer. How could he not be, he even paints his wife’s toenails for her.

evilbeth, way to go ! Soon all the mens will be matching fabrics to wall color ! ( A girl can dream ! )

I love these shows. (My sister got me hooked, she gets BBC America, I get TLC)

You must have missed it. They did a marathon a few Saturdays ago of the most questionable decorating choices - including the one room where after the reveal, the husband said something like “I’d have to be drunk to like this room, and if I were that drunk, the walls would make me sick.” The room was truly hideous.

Is it really possible to out-bizarre Laurence? This is the man who inspired me to paint rooms while dressed as a Prince-wannabe.

We havea Canadian equivalent, “Decorating Challenge” which I watch every day. I tryto catch Trading Spaces when I can, WHAT a difference! In the canadian one, the designers do what the host families want, just kind of help them with their ideas, hardly ever take over. The 'merican one has the crazed and rude designers telling people what to do, and if they dont like it, tough!

I remember one episode whenre the people were like: DONT take up the carpet, its brand new, he LOVES the carpet!
The designer looked at them like they were retards, and insisted they tear up BRAND NEW BERBER CARPET and paint the concrete!

I was enthralled!

I like this show too. One of its more appealing aspects (IMHO) is the way the hostess, Alex, doesn’t hesitate to mock the designers when they get real flaky. Also, the guy who does all their carpentry doesn’t suffer fools gladly either. I mean, he’s got a sense of humor, but he doesn’t give the designers overmuch deference.

That one auburn-haired designer gets orbital sometimes. She scares me, and I’d beat her to death with a garden hose before I’d let her start in on any room in my house.
