I did read what you wrote and agree that they’re not going to have enough TC Officers when a freeway gets detoured through town. I was trying to bring the thread back on track about when traffic is all fucked up when 1 or 2 TCs would be enough to ensure decent flow.
Who are these traffic control officers you speak of? I don’t know of any department that has a group of officers that are just waiting around to direct traffic. Officers would have to be pulled off whatever else they are doing. A big city department might have the manpower most other departments don’t. That does happen when necessary to move traffic but if it’s just to take a couple of minutes off your commute then it probably isn’t going to happen.
I was traveling through one of the southern states (can’t remember which one) a few years ago and something happened to close the interstate. They diverted us off to a back road for what seemed like 15 or 20 miles to get around it. I did see some nice country and small towns I would not have seen otherwise but it did make me late to where I was going.
