Trailer for new Robocop

I’ll concede that the Claymation special effects haven’t really aged well.

Why can’t it be both? Especially in light of Verhoven’s other movies (Total Recall, Starship Troopers, even Hollow Man to an extent). And even then, “Businessmen suck!” is not exactly an unsafe target of satire. Even in the excessive 80s.

Thanks to the amazing make-up effects master Rob Bottin.

The only weasel to rival Ferrer was Paul Reiser (Aliens), another anti-corporate 80s over-the-top gore-fest. Neither movie was great, but both established a firm footing in their reality Sci-Fi sub-genre. Why do they have to constantly re-make the 80s? I guess our new generation of young moviegoers like the story but don’t want to see actors from nearly thirty years ago portraying the roles.

Because Hollywood is wary of or openly hostile to original ideas that are unproven and risky.

These bean counters know remakes, however unnecessary, vapid, or unoriginal, will make money. That’s all that matters to them.

Except, time and again, that has proven untrue. SOME remakes/reboots make money and some do not. It may be the conventional wisdom, but it’s not the correct answer to that question.

I wonder. I’d like to see some hard data on this. My understanding is that the remakes have been more sure of making money than original stories overall, but admittedly I have no data to back this up at the moment, nor the opportunity to search for it right now.

In any case, if it’s not true that the bean counters are making money on remakes, they at least seem to think they are.

If I’m bored later, I’ll see what I can come up with.

Actually, there’s almost no gore at all in Aliens. I don’t think we see any blood at all, except for minor cuts on people’s faces or arms.

Well, human blood, of course. Plenty of alien and android blood, but that’s a bit different than filling the screen with the red stuff.

Also, I once heard Paul Reiser talk about taking his mom to see the premiere. When his character got eaten, his mom did a fist pump and went “Yes!”

Some one should say it - I WON’T buy that (a movie ticket) for a dollar!

I’m not opposed to remakes in general (The Maltese Falcon everyone knows was IIRC the third movie based on that story), but this one does not interest me.

Maybe if it comes to free TV I’ll watch it, or if it gets glowing reviews, but not otherwise.

design? What design?

They just added an article specifically about it, and unfortunately it looks like they’re right on all counts.
