So, have your lucky pants turned up, yet?
I want my—how much was it?—ten million dollars!!!
You need to do the little pinky-to-mouth gesture first.
Actually, I think it was something like $62 million.
I find that story unremittingly bizarre.
The way I figure it, Bush can pardon Libby without political consequence anytime after the 2008 elections (Nov. 4, IIRC). Libby’s appeal won’t get heard until next summer, IIRC, and he can take the case to the Supreme Court if that fails (and they can presumably stall a couple of months before denying cert). And if Libby’s given the courtesy of 45-60 days to wrap up his affairs before being incarcerated, he could quite possibly avoid prison until after the election, or at least until very close to it.
So if Libby’s allowed to exhaust his appeals before being imprisoned, chances are he will serve little or none of his sentence before Bush pardons him, without any political repercussions to the GOP.
But if Walton sends Libby to prison this August (60 days after next week’s hearing), then either he’ll have to serve nearly 15 months of his sentence, or Bush will have to pardon Libby while the 2008 elections are still ahead of us.
That’s the choice I want to see Bush have to make.
He has nothing to lose. C’mon. Really. Haliburton has raped America, courtesy of GW Bush and has now fled for Dubai with billions in hand. President Bush has done his part, played his role out quite well and is leaving the next Administration with a castrated husk of a government and a populace and economy in tatters.
Why the hell WOULD he wait? His own party disavows him ( witness the Republican debates from last week !! ) and his family and personal fortune has been guaranteed via Dick Cheney/ Haliburton.
He’s dumb enough to think nobody will be paying attention by Labor Day. I’m taking odds that he pardons ScooterPie by Sept. 15th, 2007.
And, on a less engraged note, is there anything in the law that says that a sitting President is not allowed to pardon someone before the elections, or is it just considered good manners ?
He can pardon them whenever he wants, but only for federal crimes.
Lying under oath in Federal Court is not a federal crime?
Yes, it is.
I thought so. Thank you. I still call Sept. 15, 2007.
I think the pants already had some wear around the cuffs, so he’s giving them a 13 million dollar credit for that. Well done!
Are we in the right thread?
