Transit from NYC to the Catskills

We’re considering promoting an event in Saugerties, NY, but have no idea what the transportation options are like. We know Amtrak does not run there, and the MTA only goes as far as Poughkeepsie. The most reasonable approach seems to be chartering a coach from NYC to Saugerties and back for the concert.

Have any Dopers chartered a coach in the New York area? I can find web sites, but none of them have prices. The whole proposed venue only holds 50 people, so a wild guess would mean 30-35 people on the bus. Is this feasible?

Why would you need to charter a bus? There’s regularly scheduled bus service on Adirondack Trailways.

Thanks for the link!

Why charter? Because the concert would be at 7 PM and the two Trailways buses per day are pretty widely spaced. A charter to and from NYC would seem to make a lot of sense.

Oh! I was picturing like, a weekend retreat or something, not an event that just lasts a couple hours, and then you need to get home again.

I know from looking into it for my wedding, that the charter bus business gives off this air of shadiness… If making calls is a problem for you, you can get a quote online from this company…

Very cool! I put in a trip there and back in the same day, and came up with $690, which at $25 a person for 35 people would cover the rental and a nice tip for the driver.

I notice there’s a link on that page to charter a jet, just in case you need some options.

Plenty of people made it to Woodstock.

Hopefully the transportation infrastructure has improved a little over what I saw in the movie.
